Tino Cuéllar appointed Chief Global Affairs Officer at Anthropic

Mariano-Florentino Cuéllar has been appointed Chief Global Affairs Officer at Anthropic, the first person to hold this role. He will oversee the company's policy work, international engagement, and government relationships globally.

Cuéllar recently left his position as President of the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, an independent policy research organization. His background includes serving as a Justice on the California Supreme Court, where he ruled on cases involving technology, privacy, and international matters. He previously directed Stanford's Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies and led the university's cyber and AI initiatives.

His experience in government spans three presidential administrations, including work on the President's Intelligence Advisory Board and the State Department's Foreign Affairs Policy Board. He co-chaired a bipartisan task force on nuclear proliferation and led California's Frontier AI Working Group. Cuéllar currently teaches at Stanford Law School as the Cameron Schrier Family Professor and serves as Senior Fellow at Stanford's Institute for Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence.

Anthropic co-founder Daniela Amodei said Cuéllar brings sound judgment and civic commitment needed to work with governments and civil society on AI governance. Cuéllar is stepping down from his role as Trustee of Anthropic's Long-Term Benefit Trust, a position he held since January 2026.
